Whitekit flicked her ear as she heard laughter outside the nursery. She lifted her head, wincing at the bright light. The silver-and-white she-kit padded softly past the sleeping Emeraldflame and poked her head out.
Outside, Sunpelt was speaking to his new mate, Twilightfall. They have been mates for a few days now, and already they were talking about having kits.
Whitekit noticed that Nightpaw wasn't with them; the black apprentice was eating a squirrel a fox-length away, not paying attention.
Sunpelt turned his head to her and smiled. The orange tom padded to the fresh-kill pile and grabbed a vole, then padded up to her and dropped it at her paws.
"Here you go, Whitekit," Sunpelt mewed. "Figured you'd like something to eat."
Whitekit nodded her thanks and sank her teeth into the vole. She enjoyed its juicy flavor flowing through her mouth and down into her throat.
"How is it?" The young warrior asked.
"It's great!" Whitekit mewed through a mouthful. Sunpelt blinked and smiled, then padded away with Twilightfall, who was eating a pigeon, picking out its feathers close by.
Nightpaw finished his squirrel after a few more messy mouthfuls, swallowing, then padded over to the new warriors. "Hey, Sunpelt, can we go out on a hunting patrol?" he mewed.
Sunpelt looked up, his mouth covered with feathers and he swallowed. The orange tom shook his head. "I'm going out to the border patrol," he mewed. "Sorry, Nightpaw."
Twilightfall wrapped her tail around the orange warrior and stared at Nightpaw, "Maybe ask if some of the senior warriors if you can join the dawn patrol?"
"But I want to go out with you on a patrol!" Nightpaw pouted, putting his paw down.
Sunpelt frowned. "I don't have time, Nightpaw," he apologized. "I have to do this patrol with Twilightfall. Besides, don't you have to train with Poolfrost?"
"Her paw got twisted in a fight with MistClan, remember?" Nightpaw hissed. "She won't be able to join a patrol without limping in a couple more days, and I'm stuck here doing the apprentice duties alone! I just want to go out on a patrol with you."
Sunpelt sighed. "After I do my patrol with Twilightfall, I'll go out with you, Nightpaw."
But Nightpaw didn't look happy. "You have time to stay with Whitekit, a kit, but not an apprentice? What kind of a warrior are you?" And, without waiting for a reply, the black apprentice turned around and padded away from the orange warrior.
Whitekit felt sorry for Sunpelt. She believed he didn't deserve that from Nightpaw, but it was normal for the young tom to act this way. She still didn't understand why he didn't like her so much, but then she remembered how she didn't sense real love, warmth from a cat that cheered his new apprentice name- could it be that? After all, Whitekit never noticed any other cats with the black apprentice except his mentor, Poolfrost.
But she knew she'd never figure out the answers, especially now that she's a kit. She'd be too young to find the answers herself; only Nightpaw could figure it out himself.
Unless.....
What if she helped him?
No. There's no way Nightpaw would allow it, especially if he disliked her.
Whitekit was about to pad away back into the nursery until a black figure stood next to the Gathering Pool.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here around the Gathering Pool for a Clan meeting!" Rosestar mewed.
Whitekit blinked. What's up with this? There hasn't been much activity except the MistClan event. She turned to her mother, who was padding up to the Gathering Pool and mewed, "Can I join?"
Emeraldflame nodded, not looking back at her daughter. She sat next to Shortstem, who had his white and black tail neatly wrapped around his paws.
"BreezeClan, a little while ago, while my dawn patrol was out, one of my warriors, Leopardfang, found a small kit by the river. Leopardfang, can you show us the new kit?" Rosestar asked politely.
The cream and brown warrior nodded and brushed a small white kit with a black spot on its back. "It didn't smell like any Clan I know, but its ears have been torn, and it was bleeding on the side," the she-cat gave the small kit a look of grief. "I don't think it belongs to any Clan, and something hurt the poor thing."
"You're letting in outsiders?" a voice from the Gathering Group hissed. "BreezeClan has never done that before!"
Rosestar narrowed her eyes. "Lilyfrost, I understand your concern, it is not normal for Clans to pick up rogues or outsiders, but this kit has been injured, and we could not ignore it. Thanks to Meadowflower, it has been fixed up, and this kit should be back in health without a few days."
Meadowflower bowed her head with respect as her Clanmates cheered the medicine cat's name.
"This kit looks like it is three moons old," Rosestar continued. "It is old enough to eat prey, and until then, we will keep an eye on this kit until their parents come. And if they have not come within two moons, then we will keep this kit and train it along with Nightpaw."
Nightpaw made a face. "Training with a rogue? I'd rather have my paw bitten off! StarClan forbid-" The apprentice's ears flattened as the cats around the Gathering Pool glared at him. "Sorry," he murmured. "But it's not normal, for a Clan to take in a rogue."
"But it's a kit, and it deserves to have a home," Emeraldflame argued, her tail wrapped around Shortstem. Her mate nodded, "Every kit does not deserve to be abandoned. What kind of a mother would do that?" He stared at Emeraldflame, his eyes filled with love.
Whitekit began to feel excited. Finally, I'm going to have a denmate! And she wouldn't be training alone with just Nightpaw! Perhaps this cat would even back her up!
"Until two moons, this kit will live with BreezeClan, and if its parents have not come, then it may live with us for the rest of its life. This Clan meeting is over." Rosestar waved her white tail, but Whitekit noticed that a few of her warriors were not happy.
"Why is Rosestar letting in that filthy creature?" Leafstorm, one of the elders, hissed. "We're going to get fleas!"
"But it needs a home," Badgerheart, a cat with more sympathy, mewed. "No kit deserves to die in the forest."
Leafstorm snorted and padded back into the elders' den, with Badgerheart sighing and following the brown elder.
Leopardfang nodded to the BreezeClan leader. "I'll take this kit to the nursery," she mewed. "It'll be good company for Whitekit."
Rosestar nodded. "Agreed. Do so." The black and white she-cat padded up to the tunnel that led their way outside the territory, crawled under, then disappeared as the darkness swallowed her up.
Leopardfang nodded to the small kit, "Hello, dear," she purred. "May you follow me?"
The small kit nodded in fear, staring around shyly at the other, bigger warriors. Some were glaring at it, with flattened ears. Whitekit felt sorry for the newcomer and padded up to it. "It's okay," she comforted it. "We aren't mean. We'll take good care of you."
The small kit still didn't look as if it believed her, but it shrugged and padded next to Whitekit and into the nursery.
Whitekit sat in front of the new kit. She liked the round spot on its back. "Do you have a name?"
The small kit shook its head. "No."
"Where did you live before? Maybe we'll help you come home."
The small kit frowned this time. "I don't want to go home."
"But why-"
"Whitekit? Is this new kit getting used to the nursery?" Leopardfang mewed. The cream-colored she-cat glowed from the yellow light at her edges. She looked more golden than cream, with the sun's rays hitting her.
"Yeah, but it also said-" Whitekit stopped as she saw the desperate look on the kit's face. It gave her a tiny shake with its head that meant "no".
"You sound like a tom," Leopardfang mewed to the small kit. "Do you have a name?"
"No." The kit mewed, shuffling its paws. "Why do you cats look so big and scary? And your claws are sharp."
Leopardfang chuckled. "We're warriors, dear. We help fight for our Clan."
"We...fight?" The kit choked out, its eyes filled with terror.
"Now, now," Leopardfang mewed, rubbing her tail along the kit's back. "We only fight when it's necessary. We are not mean." To change the subject, she mewed, "What should we name you? Hmmmm...how about...Frostkit? Do you like that name?"
The kit shuffled its paws, and Whitekit thought it looked like it wasn't sure if it wanted to take a Clan  name, but it nodded. "Yeah, Frostkit's nice," he murmured.
"Good. Then you will be called Frostkit. I'll let Rosestar know when she comes back." Leopardfang gave Frostkit a small lick on the forehead and padded out of the nursery.
Whitekit noticed a familiar look on Frostkit; he had the same face of a cat she knew in her own Clan. Or was she imagining things?
Frostkit has strong-looking muscles, for a kit. The rest of the BreezeClan cats here looked skinny, but that didn't mean they aren't tough. They're certainly fit enough for a battle, enough to give some cat a few scars to remember them by. So why did those muscles and that fluffy face look so familiar?
Then everything added up.
The fluffy face and the large black dot onto Frostkit's back matched the color of a certain apprentice's fur; they both have the same bodies, and the same-sized shoulders.
Could it be possible that Frostkit shares blood with Nightpaw?
Told you I'll work on this during Spring Break!

If you love violence, manipulation, heartbreaks, and drama, then this is the perfect story for you! This story has all of these things, and if you love all of those, then hopefully you'll love this too!

So I couldn't think of what to write for this chapter, but I came up with this.
Figured I'd solve out Nightpaw's ceremony event, when Whitekit realized that there was no "real warmth" in any of the cats' eyes or smile.
Could this be the reason why Nightpaw behaves so badly? Or is it completely different?

Nightpaw reminds me of Foxheart from Yellowfang's Secret XD But trust me, he'll have a much better reason to act the way he does! I have it all planned out c:
